Description

Species: Thalassina aff. emerii Bell, 1844
Age: Cenozoic
Locality: Java, Indonesia

Measurements: 21.5 × 5.5 cm
Weight: 298 g

Thalassina is an extant genus of mud lobsters, composed of nine species that are distributed in the Indo-West Pacific Ocean.

The offered specimen comes from a geological formation with phosphatic concretions that occurs in Java, Indonesia. The peculiar mode of preservation makes preparation often difficult and, as most of the lobsters from this locality, this specimen has unprepared phosphatic outliers, minor native repairs with sand and glue. The specimen is partly encrusted with bryozoans. A few scleractinian corals also occur.
